Ryan Bowers Wins in First Ever Sprint Invaders Appearance!
(Bill W) September 11, 2014 – Ryan Bowers made his first ever appearance with the Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders count. The Ham Lake, Minnesota native took the lead in the late going and held on for the $1,500 win at Farley Speedway in Farley, Iowa early Friday morning as part of the Yankee Dirt Classic. His win came aboard the Mastell Brothers Racing #199.
Before a lap could be completed in the 25-lap main event, Carson McCarl performed a 360 spin and brought the caution. He would restart at the tail.
Bret Tripplett jumped out to an early lead from his pole position when the green fell again. Josh Schneiderman tucked into second with Terry McCarl third. Austin Johnson had things rolling early and took third from McCarl on the second go-around.
Johnson continued his pace and passed Schneiderman for second. As the lead quartet entered lapped traffic, you could throw a blanket over them. In a tight three-car battle for second, McCarl spun after contact from another car. He would restart at the tail.
Tripplett led the field back to green with a nose wing askew. Johnson, Schneiderman, Bowers and CJ Houseman followed. Bowers used the restart to shoot around Schneiderman into third. When Terry McCarl shelled his driveline on lap seventeen, Bowers used another restart to gain another spot. This time he shot around Johnson for second. Two laps later, he would make his winning move on lap 19.
Jon Agan emerged late to grab second, ahead of Johnson, Tripplett and Schneiderman. Tony Shilling, CJ Houseman, Carson McCarl, Mike Houseman Jr. and Harold Pohren rounded out the top ten. Tripplett, CJ Houseman and Terry McCarl won heats, while Bowers claimed the Shake-up Dash.
“I was able to sneak around the outside of them,” said Bowers in Victory Lane. He also won last Saturday in UMSS action at the Jerry Richert Memorial at Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, Wisconsin. “I was trying low and trying high (to get around Johnson). Finally, the caution came out, I just drove it into turn one hard and came out low and we were able to get him.”
“We needed to do better in the heat race,” said Agan. “We just started way too far back. We tried some things, and it was choppier than I expected to be. We were good. We needed some things to fall our way a little more. We’re just happy to be racing. There hasn’t been enough racing lately. I thank the Sprint Invaders for everything they do, and scheduling this Thursday race. We have to be back at work tomorrow, but it’s better than not racing at all.”
“The track was really different,” said Johnson. “It provided some excitement. It was rough in places, and slick in places. It was a lot of fun. Early, we were really nice. In the later stages, we were just too loose. I couldn’t go up top like Bowers did, because when I did, there was no bite. Coming off the corner was really hurting me.”
The Sprint Invaders return to action for the Season Championship Night, Saturday, September 27 at the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. For more information, visit www.SprintInvaders.com!
