Late Model Championship brings Mack to Volunteer

Friday night saw Mack McCarter return to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) for the Crate Late Model National Championship. With 73 American Crate All-Star Series entries crammed into the pit area for the two-day event, Mack timed in 10th fastest in his time trial group before grabbing the third and final transfer spot in his heat race. With $3,000 on the line in the feature, McCarter was an early retiree from the 50-lapper on the seventh lap. (Michael Boggs Photography)

For the $15,000-to-win finale on Saturday evening, McCarter followed up the third fastest lap in his qualifying group with a third place finish in his heat. Starting the main event in 18th, Mack pulled off early on lap 59.
