John Duty wins at Cottage Grove
Double Duty Motorsports team patriarch John Duty debuted his new Longhorn Chassis on Saturday at Oregon’s Cottage Grove Speedway. He parked the No. 5 Late Model in Victory Lane, fittingly on Dad’s Night at the track with his son Justin in attendance.
Duty kicked off the evening by qualifying eighth in the 15-car field. He then started on the pole for his heat race on the high-banked, quarter-mile clay oval and turned in a runner-up result.
He again began from the top spot in the 30-lap feature and led the first 13 circuits. After running inside the top two for a handful of laps, Duty finally took over the lead for good with nine laps remaining and showed the way for the remainder of the race.
He took his first checkered flag of the season by a margin of 0.569 seconds over BJ Donofrio, with Jake Mayden, Kye Frik and Rob Campos completing the top five.
