ARCA: Leer Tests at Toledo ; Looking to Break ARCA Records on DuQuoin Dirt.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — official release — C2M photo — Katlynn Leer, a 15-year old dirt racer from Iowa, will look to make history on the dirt at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on September 1, being the youngest female to ever attempt and start an ARCA Racing Series event, driving for Carter 2 Motorsports.

“I am very excited about this opportunity,” team owner Roger Carter said about Leer driving for Carter 2 Motorsports. “We have a chance to make ARCA history and I am proud to be a part of it.”

Leer’s racing career started at age 7, as she raced go-carts. She raced go-carts until age 12, when she attended Cory Kruseman’s Driving School in California. At this test, she drove midgets and immediately fell in love with them. Throughout the test, she impressed driving school owner, Cory Kruseman, as he offered her the opportunity to drive for him in the VRA Series. She quickly grasped the opportunity, winning Rookie of the Year honors that year. The next year, no one could stop her as she went on to win a VRA Championship.

Currently, she competes in a national midget throughout the Midwest in divisions such as POWRI, USAC, and Badger series.

On August 13, Leer tested a 3400-pound ARCA car at the Toledo Speedway with Carter 2 Motorsports.

“I’m so unbelievably happy about how good today’s test with Carter 2 Motorsports went,” Leer said of the testing session. “Toledo is definitely a fun track! I am looking forward to run some races with the team (Carter 2 Motorsports) and I am really excited about the direction my racing career is going.”

Throughout the test session, Leer turned excellent laps. In the multiple runs she attempted, she took one session alone to get used to the 3400-pound ARCA car as she carefully maneuvered the car around the half-mile track. After settling in, she began to run faster and faster times every lap, eventually turning an unofficial fast lap of 17.95 seconds.

Katlynn Leer will shatter the ARCA Racing Series record books in September as she will become the youngest female in series history to attempt and compete in an event at 15 years, 243 days. The previous record was held by Taylor Ferns, who drove for Venturini Motorsports in 2013, at 17 years of age.

As part of her climb into the history, she will compete in the ARCA Truck Series event on August 31st to gain certification to race the next day at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds with the ARCA Racing Series. Her truck will be fielded by Carter 2 Motorsports.

The Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Auto Care at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds will be the first of two career starts for the 15-year old this season.
