Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 17, 2016) – Aaron Reutzel captured the $7,500 prize for claiming the finale of the opening doubleheader for the NSA Shootout on Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park.
Roger Crockett kicked off the program by setting quick time during qualifying before Matthew Dusseault, Travis Rilat and Sam Hafertepe Jr. each won a heat race.
Reutzel made the redraw for the dash, which was scrapped because of time, and he pulled the No. 1 to start on the pole for the 30-lap main event. He quickly took the lead before Rilat powered into the top spot on Lap 11. Rilat led for eight laps before Reutzel reclaimed the lead on Lap 19 and never looked back.
Hafertepe Jr. passed Rilat for the runner-up position in the late stage of the race. Crockett finished fourth and Logan Forler was fifth.
The sprint car drivers weren’t the only ones who put on a great show for the fans.
Kelly Hample outlasted Red Bull Global Rallycross star Steve Arpin, who was making his debut at Billings Motorsports Park, to win the late model main event. Rob Odegard ended third, Dave Smith fourth and Jim Harris fifth.
