Look Back on the 2011 Season with Scott Krueger

2011 started out good. it started with speedweeks in Feb 2011, at Ocala Micro Speedway in Ocala, Fl. I bought a Henchcraft 1000cc and raced my first race on a dirt track with a new car. Competetion was stiff. Racers all around the nation came to win the top prize and set fast time. I ended up 8th that day out of 22 cars. No accidents.

I started the year in good hands with Wayne Davis as the series Promoter and leader. He took me under his wings to guide me in the right direction to be more competitive. As the year progressed, I found myself being more racey, and sitting pretty good in the points. Summer break came upon us, and it was long needed. Wayne then focused more on me and the car to get me in victory lane.

Wayne Davis stated, " I will get you your first win, guaranteed". The first race after the break, I found myself sitting on pole, set fast time, won my heat, won the trophy dash, and won the main feature that night. A sweep. It was awesome. From there I found myself sitting upside down a couple weeks later. I saw the white flag, and was in the hunt for first place. Three cars ahead of me, one smoking, I saw what they were going to do and I did the opposite. I went high in turn three and four as they went low. But then tragedy struck.

My right rear tire hit the wall, and it sent me flying in the air tumbling 3 times and landing on my left side. I blacked out and woke up as people were talking to me and staring. All I remember was, that my knees and left shoulder hurt. The staff at Ocala Micro Speedway flipped my car back and I was evacuated by the paramedics and taken to the ER where I was examined and declared with a slight break in my shoulder along with some major bruises on my knees. I took two weeks off and then returned to the track where I saw the damage. I lost confidence in my driving ability and the car.

Wayne Davis gave me the courage again and made all the necessary safety adjustments to the car to get me racing again. I finished the season in good standings, and Wayne Davis and I agreed to take the car to Tulsa and try the shootout. He said that will make me a better driver going against the best and top drivers across the nation. I missed the first practice session. I watched how the track came in and talked to Wayne about the necessary adjustments needed. He said roll with it. As the second practice started, I was the last car out, the green flag waved and in turn two, a car spun in front of me, and I ended up hitting him. No damage done to the car. We still had more adjustments that needed to be done. First heat, I started 7th out of 8. After the heat ended, I finished 4th. I was stoked.

Then the waiting began as I had one more heat race to determine if I make the show or had to run one more session. Second heat, I started 2nd and stayed 2nd after the checkered flew. Wayne then knew I made the show. He was so excited, he shook my fiancee to death as she was recording my race. At least I didnt have to run the LCQ. I could relax. Saturday came fast. It's showtime. "A" main. There I sat on the grid in 11th. A lot was going in my mind. Green flag flew. Off we go. At all the cautions and white flag, I found myself in the top 5. Checker came and finished 5th. I was happy as was my fiancee and Wayne Davis. Who knew that a rookie in his first season would finish or even make the big show at Tulsa. I didnt. I wanna return next year and maybe go to Eldora and conquer that track. Lets see what 2012 has in store.
