TULSA, Okla. – As entries start to flow in for the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, which takes place in Tulsa, OK’s River Spirit Expo Center every January, Greenwood, MO native Clinton Boyles is ready to put his name on the entry list as well.
The eighteen-year-old will be contesting nearly 300 other drivers at the 29th Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals for the coveted Golden Driller trophy, arguably the most elusive racing prize on the planet. He’ll be piloting the Stealth/Esslinger that his father, Joe, has driven in the past. However, the car formerly numbered #7b will be sporting a different number, #98, in memory of his maternal grandfather Mark Dyer, a Mid-Missouri racing legend in the modified ranks. Boyles will look to reverse the bad luck that plagued his midget debut during the 2012 Chili Bowl in his grandparents’ #7rs machine. In his qualifying race, his ride ended up on its lid, bringing his night to an end and relegating him to Saturday night’s K-main. Boyles was able to transfer into one of two J-main events, but his progress stopped there due to a hole developing in a radiator hose and forcing him to take a DNF. Over the following summer, Boyles had much better luck competing in the midget class. His last three events, coming in the summer of 2012, resulted in two runner-ups and a third-place finish.
He has largely been out of racing in 2014 due to the sale of his micro sprint early in the year, as well as starting his college academic and athletic career at Metropolitan Community College – Blue River. Before the family car sold, Boyles raced it twice in the nonwing division at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex, scoring a top-five both times, then picked up a top-ten driving Waters Motorsports’ open class micro at XX Speedway in August. Late in the season, the Waters team put him in their sportsman entry for two race nights, with the second night resulting in a runner-up finish at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex’s Show-Me Showdown in October.
Boyles would like to thank Hinchman Racing Uniforms for their continued support. He is currently seeking sponsorship for the nationally televised Chili Bowl event. If interested, please don’t hesitate to contact Boyles or the Redbeard Promotions team for more information on how sponsoring can help your business as well as Boyles’ chances to put his car in the feature event.
2014 Season Stats
