Top Ten for Lutz at Eagle Raceway

There were 25 cars at Eagle tonight. Torey drew a 39 for us; out of 60 is better than 40 I guess. We ran in the third heat, starting 6th, behind Martens #13. On the second lap, 4j and 13 made contact going down the front, creating a problem with 4j front wheel and his steering. We ran up to him, tapping his car and nearly stopping on the track. Dropped us back for the restart. More problems when the 17 car didn't go and we passed before the cone. Yeah, we did it, went under the cone and there was no denying it so we went to the back of the field. Once the heat got going, we moved up pretty well to finish third.

Made the redraw, top four from each heat, and lucky Eric drew 11 out of 12. Started mid field and moved into 8th by the 5th lap when the caution flew for 14 and us. 14 had spun and with no place to go, bumped him with our left rear. No real damage and we both continued, from the back. On lap 10, 14 spun again. Restarted 14th and we were in heavy traffic. following 99 around the bottom, saw him tag the inside of turn three and tip over right in front of us. Lucky 13th restart position saw us chasing down the 64 car when his rear axle broke just ahead of us and caused another close call. The final restart with 5 laps to go restarted us in 10th. We got past one car, but 4j got past us on the final lap and we settled for 10th. Ahead of where we started, and in one peice after all the close racing and action around us on the track.

Starting off the season with a win and a 10th averages out to 5th...not to bad. Heading back to Nebraska this weekend for ASCS opener for two days at I-80.
