Top 10 Finish for Fischer in Kansas
The POWRi West midget series took the Fischer Racing team to Humboldt, KS for a 2-day show on the small 3/8 mile NASCAR sanctioned dirt track of Humboldt Speedway. Friday’s drawing put the Flying Tee Golf sponsored #24 midget starting 5th in the first heat race. Running strong, Hunter moved up a spot to finish in 4th and qualified himself for the A feature, starting on the inside of row 6 (P11) of 21 cars. With only one yellow flag over 25 laps, the field was stretched out. Hunter fought a loose setup and fell back to finish in 12th overall.
Night 2 of the weekend double header had the #24 starting in the sixth position of heat 2. Against a stacked heat of top drivers, Hunter made it up one spot to finish in 5th. This would qualify the Flying Tee midget to start again in row 6 of the A feature, but on the outside (P12). Many yellow flags would fly during this race, making up for the fast pace of Friday’s race. An early yellow was shown for a spun car in Turn 1, which also collected Hunter that had to slide sideways into the stopped car. Luckily, the impact flattened the nerf bar without getting into the rear tire and was able to continue the race. This night, the car would not steer through the corners as the track was super tacky in the high humidity (something we are not expecting in an A feature). In spite of the setbacks, the team was able to move forward and secured a Top 10 by finishing in 9th place. The car ran really well, but was showing a hint of smoke coming out of the exhaust. The smell of coolant was prevalent, so the team has some work to do before the next race in Missouri.
