Feature Time at I-55 Raceway

One of our favorite venues of the season is the 1/3 mile track at I-55 Raceway, in Pevely MO. During the Iron Man 55 2-day event, the POWRi National & West midget series joins up with the World of Outlaws for a packed house and elite competition! This high banked track features seating nearly all around the track (guessing 270 degrees) and an infield protected by a concrete wall where some teams can pit their race vehicles and/or watch the races. Fischer Racing took the Flying Tee Golf sponsored entry and made the 6-hour drive north to the outskirts of St. Louis.

Hunter continued his good luck at drawing low numbers on Friday and started on the pole of Heat 3. Taking the green flag, something was amiss on the #24 car and Hunter began to fall back through the field with the engine not at full song. He was able to hold onto 8th place (out of 9 cars), which placed him deep in the B Feature for the evening.

With a short amount of time to diagnose issues, the team checked the electrical connections, battery voltage, fuel, and nozzles in search of an obvious cause for the engine to sputter as it did. Starting 10th in the B Feature, Hunter needed to make it up to 6th place in 12 laps to transfer into the A Main. The car still exhibited some issues, but to a lesser degree, and was able to climb into the 5th spot before the checkered flag displayed. We made the A Main and were very happy about it!

Another short turnaround allowed us to fuel up and put more juice into the battery, but the team was still cautious about the car’s odd behavior. Starting in the 21st spot of the 24-car feature, Hunter drove a great race working the middle groove while everyone else was down low. Down on power, the #24 couldn’t quite make it past a tight 3 car group he was behind and finished 20th overall. With all things considered, the team was happy to survive another day and be in the company of some very talented drivers. Saturday would be a new day and hopefully allow us time to find the pesky gremlin hiding somewhere in the engine compartment!

Thank you to our sponsors, Flying Tee Golf in Jenks on the Riverwalk, B&C Custom Woodworks in Tulsa, and Bolted Spine Designs! We do our best to represent the companies that support a young man’s dream in a very competitive sport. From Fischer Racing, a heartfelt appreciation is extended to everyone that cheers us on, wishes us well, and makes all of this possible!
