Dylan Cappello Secures Spears Modified Championship with Fourth Straight Victory; Will Make First Career Late Model Start at the Bullring

26 Promotions – Lake Havasu City, AZ – (November 7, 2019) – Entering this weekend’s Spears Modified Series race on a three-race winning streak and on the verge of clinching the series title, Dylan Cappello only had one thing on his mind: revenge.
“Going into Havasu, I felt like this placed owed us after last year,” said Cappello. “We ran up front and lead a huge portion of the race, only to give it up with under five to go. We had a plan to win and we wanted to stick to it. That plan was to work on my consistency and have a tight enough racecar at the beginning of the race so that at the end we still had drive.”
Cappello knew he had a good car throughout practice and that showed in qualifying when he set the fast time, but a random draw would set the field for the start of the 75-lap feature.
“We have been plagued with poor starting positions this season and it showed again when we pulled a seven in the random draw,” Cappello explained. “I was able to get to fifth pretty quickly and a spin right in front of me put us in third for the first restart. Battling for second allowed the leader to slip away and I had a decent gap to chip away at after grabbing the second spot.”
Around the halfway point, Cappello was able to real in his teammate, Eddie Secord, and sneak by him for the lead. This allowed Cappello to focus on saving tires and making it through lapped traffic. A late-race caution would bunch the field up, but the Hitman was able to get a good run off turn four and pull out to a decent lead for the final 10-lap sprint to secure his fourth straight Spears Modified Series victory and the 2019 series championship.
“We finally got the win at our worst track, statistically,” said Cappello. “Clinching the championship feels great and will allow us to head into Vegas stress-free and go for the win to close out the season. I’m glad I gave my car owner, Dean Kuhn, and our team the championship we have been working for the past few years. This is the best team I have ever been a part of, and I’m honored to be the guy behind the wheel. Thank you to my parents, family, girlfriend, and all of the support we have had throughout the year.”
Cappello is also excited to announce that he will be making his SRL Southwest Tour debut with Cristiani Motorsports on November 23rd at the Bullring.
“Running double duty that weekend will be one of the biggest challenges in my racing career,” stated Cappello. “I have wanted to step into one of these cars for a while and I hope to make the most of it against a really tough field of cars. Trevor has run really well at the Bullring in the past and I know he will bring a great deal of driving and setup knowledge to get me acclimated.”
