Shirley third in Nippy 50 opener at Maquoketa Speedway

Spending Easter weekend at the racetrack, Brian Shirley unloaded his Bob Cullen Racing No. 3S at Maquoketa (Iowa) Speedway on Friday afternoon for the first night of the Nippy 50 weekend.

Clicking off the fastest lap in his qualifying group, Shirley dominated his heat race and pulled the pole position in the redraw for the $10,000-to-win main event. Leading the first 16 circuits, Brian surrendered the race lead to Bobby Pierce. Shirley lost one more position to Ryan Gustin in the 40-lapper to round out the podium.

For Saturday's $20,000-to-win finale, Brian once again won his heat race but pulled the No. 3 in the redraw. Shirley faded throughout the 50-lap feature but managed to stay inside the Top-10 in ninth.
