Shirley competes in XR Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway
Brian Shirley invaded the Volunteer State on Tuesday afternoon to compete in the XR Workin’ Man Series season opener at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.).
With a unique format setting the grid for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Shirley earned the seventh-starting position for the show but faded on the final circuit of the 40-lapper to finish 17th. He ran the majority of the race in the top-10.
Back in action on Saturday afternoon at the 4/10-mile oval after Mother Nature shortened the two-day XR Super Series-sanctioned Spring Thaw 100 to a single day, Brian followed up the 11th-fastest qualifying effort in his 30-car group with a fourth-to-second run in his heat race. With $100,000 on the line in the feature, Shirley dropped six positions in the 100-lap affair to place 15th.
