Brian Shirley records fourth-place finish at Beaver Dam
Picking back up with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Brian Shirley made the trek to Beaver Dam Raceway (Beaver Dam, Wis.) on Wednesday afternoon for the eighth stop of the Hell Tour. With a heat race victory sending him into the redraw, Shirley locked into the third-starting position for the opening night feature. Losing one spot in the 40-lap affair, Brian notched a fourth-place finish. He trailed Bobby Pierce, Brandon Sheppard, and Ashton Winger to the checkers with Tanner English coming in fifth. On Thursday evening at Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) on the quarter-mile oval, Brian edged his way into the $5,000-to-win A-Main with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat race. Rolling off 16th, Shirley gained four spots in the 40-lapper to finish 12th.
For the third stop of the week on Friday at Dirt Oval Route 66 Raceway (Joliet, Ill.), Shirley scored a runner-up finish in his heat, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the A-Main. After wheeling his way up a podium spot early, Brian ran a steady pace in the second half of the race to place third. He followed Bobby Pierce and Frank Heckenast Jr. across the line with Ashton Winger and Tanner English rounding out the Top-5.
The following night at Fayette County Speedway (Brownstown, Ill.), Brian came in second fastest in his group before placing second in his heat. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Shirley clawed forward one spot to record a sixth-place outing.
Wrapping up the Fourth of July weekend on Sunday, Shirley stopped at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.) for the $5,000 prize. After leading the first 14 circuits of the feature, Brian ran into mechanical issues that sidelined him for the remainder of the 40-lapper.
