Shirley notches fifth-place finish in Dream opener at Eldora
Bob Cullen Racing and pilot Brian Shirley traveled to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Wednesday afternoon to kick off four days of racing with the 27th annual Dirt Late Model Dream. With the 74-car field split into two separate groups for a pair of preliminary features, Brian followed up the 10th fastest lap in time trials with a third-place finish in his heat race. Starting the $10,000-to-win A-Main in 12th, Shirley advanced forward seven spots in the 25-lapper to register a fifth-place finish. With preliminary results on Wednesday pinning him on the pole for his heat race on Thursday, Shirley secured his spot into the $127,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream with a runner-up finish behind Kyle Bronson. Rolling off 10th, Brian faded five spots in the 100-lap affair to place 15th.
On Friday afternoon for another round of preliminary features, Brian gained three spots in his heat race to finish third. With $10,000 on the line in the A-Main, Shirley clawed forward one spot in the 25-lapper to register an 11th-place finish.
Rolling off fifth in his heat race on Saturday afternoon, Shirley recorded a fifth-place finish, giving him one final shot at the $126,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream with a B-Main appearance. Needing to place third or better, Brian fell short of a transfer position with a sixth-place outing.
