Brian Shirley Enters MLRA Independence Weekend Tripleheader
It was another busy weekend for Brian Shirley and the Bob Cullen Racing team as they entered a tripleheader header with the Lucas Oil Midwest Latemodel Racing Association (MLRA). The action kicked off on Friday with the 12th Annual Slocum 50 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. In a stout field of Super Late Models, Shirley managed a fifth-place finish in his heat race, sending him to the B-Main. Winning the B-Main earned Brian the 17th spot on the starting grid for the $10,555-to-win feature. He would ultimately retire to a 16th place finish in the final rundown.
Shifting to 300 Raceway in Farley, Iowa on Saturday, Brian enjoyed a much strong start to the night with a runner-up performance in his heat race. Earning the fourth starting spot for the $5,000-to-win main event, Shirley raced to a fourth-place finish behind race winner Payton Looney, Bobby Pierce, and Jeremiah Hurst. Spencer Diercks completed the Top-5.
Wrapping up the weekend on Sunday at the Bullring at Rock Island County Fairgrounds (East Moline, Ill.), Shirley place third in his heat race to lock into the seventh spot on grid for the 44-lap feature. With $6,000 on the line, Brian raced to a sixth-place finish.
