Sprint Car Stampede Win and Joe Herrera Memorial Recap

At Hodges Motorsports we are looking forward to a busy few weeks to end the season. We’ll head to Canyon Speedway October 23rd and 24th to compete with USAC CRA, and in the month of November we will race the Oval Nationals in Perris, CA and race two cars at Western World in Tucson, AZ. I’m really looking forward to racing with USAC again and dropping the 410 back in it. I believe our trip to Indiana this summer was extremely beneficial, and I think we can have a few good runs at these big shows.

The past few weeks we have raced the 360. October 3rd we bolted the wings on it for the first time since the spring and raced the Joe Herrera Memorial in Aztec, NM. After struggling in the heat race, we made some changes and we won the B feature. From there, I tried to get too much in certain spots of the A feature and only managed a 9th place finish. I struggled to adapt to the winged style all night, but all in all a top ten wasn’t a terrible run. This past weekend we went back nonwing racing here at home, Sandia Speedway. It was the annual Sprint Car Stampede worth $2000 to win, and we got things started right by winning the heat race from the front row. We weren’t perfect so we kept a close eye on the racetrack and were careful with our changes for the feature. Starting from 4th, it took me a few laps to find the racetrack. But when I did, the car was a rocket and we advanced to the lead. There were several cautions throughout the event, but we were able to jump out to a lead on every one, and in the end we got the win! It was an exciting one for sure, and I have to thank Jackson Compaction, MVT, Ortega’s Appliance, CSI, Maxim Racing, and everybody who helps us get to the racetrack. A thank you goes out to Dan Appel and Jerry Gibson for their tremendous efforts the past few weeks, and I also want to say congratulations to our supporter, Chuck Jackson, on his Sandia Speedway track championship!
