Hodges Motorsports Update - USA Raceway Night 1

It was a decent night for the Benic Enterprises 74x crew here in Tucson, AZ running the non-wing car today in the first of 3 elbows-up nights of racing at Western World. I drew pill number 4 to start the evening, and I was on the pole of the 3rd heat race. After getting a good start, jumped out to the lead, and won the green to checker heat race. The car was handling nice, and was running lap times similar to all the fast guys, too. I made the top 8 re-draw from there and pulled 6 to start 3rd row outside. The track got dusty slick through the middle with a narrow bottom and a cushion which made for dicey racing. After an early wreck, I was running about 4th or 5th when I got a good run on the bottom, but got into the slick and couldn't catch it before I got the fence, breaking the RR wheel and bending the front axle. We tried to get it fixed, but the track went green before the repairs were finished. The car was really fast, and I was happy with the handling. I just made one mistake that cost me. I would like to thank Brad Benic once again for his tremendous help tonight as well as Mark Rosborough, Manny Ortega, and Jody Williams. Tomorrow we'll be running with parachutes on top, and we hope to have a good run that will set us up good for Saturday night's action.
