Hodges Motorsports Update - USA Raceway

The night of racing is over at USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ. If you weren't here, you missed out on some great action from the heat races to the main event. I started out pulling pill number 43, and that set me on the outside of row 3 for the second heat race, which is the farthest back in a heat I have started in a while. After getting some cars on the start, I ended up in second running the top groove on the slick but fast cushion. I would finish there in 2nd for the heat behing John Carney II. This put me in the top 8 re-draw, where i pulled 5 to start inside the third row. The track was about the same as the heat races, but the cushion had moved up a little. I fell back a few spots on the start and was running probably about 7th or 8th when I started passing a few cars. We were really good compared to everyone else getting into the corner to the center, and about even getting off the corner. In about the middle of the race, I got beside a car and misjudged getting into them, and bringing out the red. On the restart, I fell back a spot, but regained it with just a few laps to go, along with the third place car on the last lap working the top driving to the bottom and whatever I could do. The track was definitely elbows-up and difficult, but it was also racey. The competition got better with all the great guys coming from the Southern New Mexico area, and it was a blast running with them. It was also our first time running this motor after Wesmar freshened it up, and it ran as good as I ever have raced one. The next stop is Show Low, AZ again next Saturday and then we will end the year with a bang after a few more Southwest and Nationals shows including the ASCS National Event at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, NM on November 12 and 13, and the Kronik Energy Western World Championships the weekend afterward.
