Unzicker fourth at FALS, runner-up finish at Spoon River

After losing Friday’s Labor Day weekend opener at Farmer City (IL) Raceway to wet weather, Ryan Unzicker joined the MARS Late Model Championship Series at Fairbury (IL) Speedway on Saturday for the Triple Down Shootout.

Pinned on the seventh row for the $5,000-to-win opener via a fifth-place heat finish, Unzicker charged forward 10 spots in the 40-lapper to place fourth.

With another $5,000 payday up for grabs on Sunday at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.), Ryan followed up the 14th-fastest qualifying effort with a fifth-to-second heat showing. Moving forward again in the feature, Unzicker capped off his Labor Day weekend with a runner-up outing. He joined race-winner McKay Wenger and Jason Feger on the podium.

Ryan has closed within 15 points of the lead in the latest MARS standings.
