Pair of top-five finishes in MARS Late Model Championship
A week after losing both of his scheduled events to Mother Nature, Ryan Unzicker returned to action on Friday afternoon at Brownstown Bulllring (Brownstown, Ill.) for the opening round of the MARS Late Model Championship.
Drawing 37 Late Models for the Diggin’ Dirt 40, Unzicker started the night off with a heat race triumph but was sidelined by a flat tire on lap 20 of the feature while running in fourth.
For another $5,000-to-win program on Saturday evening at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.), Ryan outran fellow front-row starter Tyler Erb in his heat to pick up the win. After leading the opening seven laps of the feature, Unzicker went onto place fifth in the 40-lap affair.
On Sunday afternoon at Red Hill Raceway (Sumner, Ill.), Unzicker recorded the fourth-fastest lap in his time trial before placing second in his heat. With $5,000 on the line in the feature, Ryan inched forward one spot in the 30-lapper to register a fourth-place finish. He chased Brandon Sheppard, Tanner English, and Drake Troutman to the checkers with Jason Feger coming in fifth.
Ryan is currently fourth in the MARS point standings with the first three events completed.
