Ryan Unzicker battles bad luck with Lucas Oil MLRA at Davenport and 34
Ryan Unzicker got an early start to his race week with a trip to Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) on Thursday afternoon to compete with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA).
Amassing 45 Late Models to do battle on the potent ¼-oval, Unzicker crossed the line in first in his heat race but was penalized for failing the droop rule, relegating him into a B-Main. Pinned at the tail, Ryan charged forward six spots but missed a transfer position by one car with a fourth-place outing.
The following night at 34 Raceway (West Burlington, Iowa) after threatening rain forced officials to shift the $10,555-to-win Slocum 50 A-Main to Friday evening, Ryan suffered a flat while running in a transfer spot in his heat that dropped him into a B-Main. With a second-place finish positioning him on the 10th row for the feature, Unzicker was up to 12th and challenging for a top-10 run when he was collected behind a tangle. Retiring with 11th circuits remaining, Ryan was credited with a 20th-place finish.
