Solid Finish for Goodwin on Opening Night
April 27th, 2013 was the opening night event for Illiana Motor Speedway. Garett and the GGR Crew prepared all winter long for this day to come. Not knowing until February that Goodwin was out of a race car due to the chassis being too costly to fix from the previous owner, they had to come up with a new chassis. After finding a newer chassis, the building process had begun. With the help from Jet Motorsports, Austin Luedtke, and Lefthander Chassis, they were able to get the car built in a month for the first test day at Illiana.
Learning from the test session, the crew made some changes to the car to prepare it for the first race. Right off the trailer, the car handled pretty good. Garett was able to clock off a new personal best lap time as well as a new personal best qualifying time.
Feature time came and the #29 was set to roll off in the 17th position. The green flagged waved over Illiana Motor Speedway and Goodwin set sail towards the front. After sneaking past a few horrifying wrecks, Garett was able to bring home a solid 11th place finish. “I’m really proud of all my guys and the work they have done to get this car built for this season”, says Goodwin, “The new car handled really well for its first time out on track. There’s still improvement we need to make, but we have a long season ahead of us.”
