Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (June 28, 2017) – Trey Starks is returning to Central Pennsylvania to compete in most of the famed PA Speedweek, which begins this weekend.

Starks and Gobrecht Motorsports are tentatively scheduled to race this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg and Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown. They will take Sunday off before returning to Lincoln Speedway on Monday.

Tuesday will be another off day before venturing to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Md., on Wednesday; Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal on Thursday and Saturday; Williams Grove Speedway on Friday; and Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove on Sunday for the Speedweek finale.

“I’m excited to get to run a majority of Speedweek,” he said. “It’s one of the most intense weeks in sprint car racing. I think we’ve raced a couple of Speedweek races in the past, but we haven’t tackled a lot of them like we’re doing this year. It should be a fun week.”

Starks is coming of a trip to his home state to drive his family owned sprint car during last weekend’s 46th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway.

“It started out great,” he said. “We were fast all day on Thursday. We got a spot early and then chased first and second the rest of the race. At one point I had second briefly, but never had it for a lap. It got pretty dicey in traffic. The race went green to checkered. It was an exciting race and put us in a good points position. Unfortunately, the rest of the weekend didn’t pan out.”

Starks kicked off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour tripleheader by winning a heat race before advancing from sixth to fourth in a qualifier. He then picked up a position to finish third in the main event.

Night 2 began with Starks maneuvering from sixth to fourth place early in a heat race before a parts failure hampered the remainder of the weekend.

“We picked up two spots by the third lap,” he said. “We broke a part in the front end and that ended our heat race early. That sent us into a B Main. We got into a wreck early and replaced the front end. We went back out and got in another wreck. That incident in our heat race set back our night and really the rest of our weekend.”

Starks was unable to finish both his heat race and the B Main.

Once points were calculated from the two preliminary nights, Starks started Saturday’s finale fourth in a B Main. He gained two positions to finish second and earn a transfer into the main event.

“We limped through the main,” he said. “We ran 15th or 16th for most of it. We had several things going wrong and we had a red flag on Lap 36. I thought it was best to pull in and not tear anything else up. I was happy to roll it in the trailer and be done with the weekend.”

Starks was credited with a 20th-place finish.
