Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (July 27, 2015) – Trey Starks earned his best finish during the prestigious 26th annual Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals last weekend at Skagit Speedway.

Starks rallied from 11th to fourth place during Friday’s preliminary feature before he finished second on Saturday.

“We had a really good weekend,” he said. “I was one spot short on Saturday of it being great.”

Starks kicked off the weekend on Friday by qualifying eighth quickest. He then finished where he started – third – in a heat race to lock himself into the feature, which inverted the lock-in drivers. That lined Starks up on the inside of the sixth row as the driver fifth highest in points.

“I started alongside (Travis) Rilat and he ended up winning that night,” he said. “We got a little screwed up at the start of the race and Seth (Bergman) and Travis got by me. After that I settled in and it was us three moving up in a pack. It was pretty smooth just picking them off one by one. I was driving a pretty conservative race because I knew it was about getting points and getting in the top six scramble the next night.”

Starks maneuvered from 11th to post a fourth-place finish, which put him third in overall points and earned a spot in Saturday’s A Main scramble.

“We got some good points Friday night,” he said. “We had a good car and everything went smooth. Unfortunately in the scramble on Saturday we had a little problem on the start. There were some jockeying up front and we ended up mistiming it and ran into the lead car, knocking the nose wing down. The car didn’t handle that well and we ended up slipping back to fifth.”

That lined Starks up on the inside of the third row for the 40-lap feature.

“We were really good in the main, especially late in the race,” he said. “I think we were third by the second lap. At that point Seth and Travis were the two fastest cars. They were the two guys you had to beat. I knew it was about being patient and waiting for the right time to get by Travis for second. We had a late-race restart and I saw my shot at Travis and I took it. It took us about a lap to get by him and then the last 10 laps we were closing pretty hard on Seth. We just about got there and right as we got within striking distance the caution came out with four laps to go. He had clear track after that.”

Starks held on for the second-place result, which marked his 13th podium finish of the season.

Starks is slated to return to action this Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., where he has earned a podium during all four races this season.
