CHAD MILLER WINS FIRST EVER CRSA FEATURE AT UTICA ROME SPEEDWAY
Vernon, NY…The CRSA Sprint Car Tour made its return to the Utica Rome Speedway in Vernon, New York Sunday night. The sprint series had not raced at the speedway for many years and looked forward to the night of racing at the fast half mile oval. Chad Miller of Amsterdam, New York has been having a great 2015 season, sitting fourth in points going into the night’s racing action. Sunday he used patience and worked his way to the lead and won his first CRSA Sprint Tour win of the season.
Josh Pieniazek and Brian Krummel brought the twenty car starting field to the green with Sparks taking the top spot. Chad Miller vaulted from his sixth place starting position and moved into the runner-up spot chasing Sparks. Positions throughout the field changed as laps were completed on the smooth and wide Utica Rome Speedway. At the quarter race mark Sparks had the top spot over Miller, Krummel, Josh Pieniazek, and Jeremy Quick coming from his eleventh starting position.
With seven laps in the books Miller took his Miller Excavating and Landscaping sponsored sprinter to the top spot over Sparks, Quick, Pieniazek, Krummel, and Saturday’s winner Emily VanInwegen. Miller kept his sprinter solidly out front of the field. The battle for positions behind changed lap after lap. Sparks, Quick, and Krummel were all battling for positions in the top five while VanInwegen, Josh Flint, Kyle Smith, Dalton Herrick, and Kelly Hebing had a battle of their own running into the top ten.
Miller continued strong throughout the caution free twenty lap feature and took the checkered flag for his first win of the 2015 CRSA season. Sparks, Quick, Pieniazek, and Krummel rounded out the top five.
SPRINT NOTES: Going into Sunday’s action at Utica Rome Josh Pieniazek was the new point leader over Kyle Smith and Dalton Herrick. There were only twelve points separating the top three drivers after the eleventh race of the season. With Sunday race in the books, Pieniazek will retain his point lead going into the next schedule race in two weeks at the Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York.
