Sweetwater, TN - September 2, 2023 - 15 year old Gavan Boschele from Mooresville, NC raced from outsude the front row into the USCS Victory Lane on Saturday night at I-75 Raceway in the 30-Lap USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters winged sprint car main event. It was remarkably the Rookie phenom's 6th USCS main event win of the 2023 season.
Boschele, who also won Friday night's USCS Weekend of Speed 25-lap preliminary main event, had to best a talented field of drivers from seven states for the win.
He first had to work past early race leader and 14-time USCS National Champion and Hall of Famer, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee who won the Hoosier Speed Dash to earn the K&N Filters Pole Position.
Boschele started outside the front row next to the veteran (Gray).
Gray took the early lead and Boschele pursued him for 8 laps before making the winning pass.
Gray battled to hold off several challengers for the runner-up spot before catching the streaking teenager (Boschele) in lapped traffic and challengibg for the lead severalntines vefore Boschele got passed the lapped cars to breakaqay over the final fove laps for a 3 second victory as the checkers flew.
Gray crossed under the flagstand in second place with two-time USCS Mid-South regional series Champion Dale Howard from Byhalia, Mississippi in third place followed by fifth starting 9-time NRA Champion Jared Horstman from Elida, Ohio in fourth place.
The evening's Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Devon Dobie from Wapakoneta, Ohio, who started seventeenth rounding out the top five finishers.
Liepsic, Ohios,Chase Dunham led the next group in sixtg fokkowed btmy fellow Ohian, Koby Allison from Lima in tge seventh spot. Eric Riggins,Jr. from Charlotte, North Carolina was eighth, Briana Lawson from Southern Pines, North Carolina finished in ninth in the twenty car field and Jeff Willingham who is third in the current USCS National point standings completed the top ten finishers.
In preliminary action, Gavan Boschele won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat, Eric Riggin, Jr. won the JJ Supply of NC Second Heat and,Dale Howard wrapped up heat race action by winning the DHR Third Heat. Terry Gray won the 6-Lap Hoosier Speed Dash awarding him the K&N Pole Position.
The USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters winged sprint cars invade historic Talladega Short Track on Sunday night for the sprint car portion of the tracks Subday of Speed Labor Day Bash event at 7:30pm on Sunday , September 3rd.
