ATCHISON, Kan. – For the opening weekend of his 2016 race season, Lincoln, Neb. racer Frank Galusha traveled south to Kansas. At Atchison County Raceway, the perennial micro sprint ace came away with third-place finishes in both the preliminary and main event during the speedway’s two day “Spring Fling.”

With 34 entries in the winged division, four heat races kicked off the action on Friday night. In the third of four heat races, Galusha’s lackluster pill draw put him near the rear, starting in seventh. That wouldn’t hold him back from a charge through the ten-lap event to finish in second.

As the preliminary feature lineup was based upon passing points, the rallying Galusha set up from outside row two. Originally slated as the final race of Friday evening, the track’s midnight curfew shut the show down, forcing that race to take place on Saturday afternoon. At the drop of the green, it was Galusha who emerged from turn two with the lead, but he wouldn’t be able to hold that spot for long. Twin brothers Nick and Matt Howard would battle fiercely with Galusha in a three-car race for the lead early in the event. Nick soon pulled away from the others, leaving Galusha to duke it out with Matt for the second spot. In the end, Galusha would come home in third.

As the top six finishers were locked in to the weekend finale in order of finish, Galusha’s next competitive laps would be in the main event. Starting from third, a race similar to the one earlier in the night would ensue. It was Galusha and the Howard duo racing amongst the top three positions. While maintaining the third position in a close race with the pair, Galusha was able work his way past Nick for second. However, another challenge came soon after, and Galusha would fall to third, and eventually settle in for the final step on the podium.

Galusha is next scheduled to compete on April 16 at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Sweet Springs, Missouri in the No. 12 600cc micro sprint entry.
