Felker Set for Wing and Nonwing Micro Sprint Action at Tulsa Shootout
Inside Line Promotions – CARL JUNCTION, Mo. (Dec. 17, 2013) – Andrew Felker is about to kick off the 2014 racing season, which begins on New Year’s Day.
From Jan. 1-4, Felker is slated to drive for Hans Lein out of Wisconsin in the 29th annual Tulsa Shootout at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. Felker will compete in the winged outlaw and nonwing outlaw micro sprint classes.
“This will be my 10th year at the Shootout,” Felker said. “We’ve had a few top fives. It seems like we always have a good car. I think I’ve qualified for all but one or two features when we’ve ran there.
“I think if we get the car working right, I think we definitely have a shot at winning. It takes a little bit of luck just like at the Chili Bowl. I think we’ll have a car that is capable of winning it.”
With more than 100 competitors in each class expected as usual, Felker said he is confident heading into an event where he has been a consistent contender. While he hasn’t reached Victory Lane, Felker has accumulated numerous top fives and top 10s, including last season.
Felker ended sixth in the winged class and eighth in nonwing action in last year’s event. However, his top performance in each class was a couple of years ago.
“My best finish would have been third in the winged outlaw deal and fifth in the nonwing outlaw deal,” he said. “Two years ago we came out of the B Main to run fifth in the nonwing feature. That year we were running the same car in wing and nonwing. We almost didn’t run it for the nonwing, but we were starting near the front of the B Main. For the most part I just rolled the bottom to stay conservative. I wish we would have pushed the issue a little bit more. Then we threw the wings on it and ran fourth.”
Despite only competing in approximately a half-dozen micro sprint events since last season’s Tulsa Shootout, Felker is excited for the upcoming challenge.
“It’s always a great way to kick off the season and hopefully we can start 2014 on the right foot by picking up a win or two,” he said.
