Covington Shifts Focus to Knoxville, After Runner-up at Windy Hollow

Matt Covington and the Covington Racing crew are locked in and ready to tackle the famed half-mile of Knoxville Raceway this weekend for the 35th annual Xtream powered by Great Southern Bank Knoxville 360 Nationals.
Covington is coming off a strong, but bittersweet weekend with the ASCS National Tour, where he picked up a 2nd-place finish Friday at Windy Hollow, followed by a 19th and DNF at Benton Speedway on Saturday after getting tangled with a lap car while leading the feature.
“We’re very optimistic heading into the 360 Nationals,” said Covington. “The car felt solid at Windy Hollow, just not quite good enough to beat Sam. At Benton, I think we were on our way to a second national win of the year before that misfortune with the lapper. But Knoxville’s a different beast. It can humble you quickly.”
With multiple trips to Knoxville already under their belt this season, the team feels confident in their baseline setup heading into the Nationals.
“We’ve found a decent balance there. If we start the night off right with a good pill draw, I believe we have what it takes to put together a strong showing,” Covington added. “We’ve got the equipment, the motors, and the team to get results, if I do my job and we land on a solid setup. The goal is to make the A-Main again and let the rest play out from there.”
Covington’s 360 Nationals campaign kicks off Thursday night with his qualifying session, and all eyes will be on Saturday’s finale, where the top sprint car talent in the country will battle for one of the year’s most coveted wins.
