Scotty Thiel – Scores Win at SK Speedway followed by Outlaw Run at Beaver Dam!
Scotty Thiel headed up to northern Wisconsin on Friday night to drive the Sippel Racin 39s MSA 360 car at SK Speedway in Unity, Wisconsin. That trek paid off as he was able to capitalize a front row starting spot and pick up the 25 lap main event victory! Thiel would go on to follow that run up at the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the World of Outlaw NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series on Saturday night.
27 cars signed into SK Speedway on Friday night. Scotty started eighth in the heat race event where he would go on to charge up to the third position after ten laps of green flag action took place. At the conclusion of the heat race event, Thiel was docked two position for jumping the initial start of the race. He would be officially scored in the fifth position. With the passing point format, Thiel would end up starting on the front row of the 25 lap main event. Thiel jumped out to an early lead and began to charge his way through lap traffic before the first caution came out shortly before the midpoint of the race. A series of cautions were followed but Thiel was able to hold on to the lead after each restart and continue his charge. A green, white, checkered finish would take place after one last caution on lap 24 came out which Thiel would bring the field back to green and never look back. Scotty would capture the win which was his 11th career MSA victory and first win with car owner Randy Sippel. “Man this one feels pretty special! Randy helped me out when I first started racing sprint car back in 2008. He was my mentor and I looked up to him and what he all did for me. We’ve been racing his stuff a couple times the last year or so and we’ve been close on wins but finally put it all together tonight.” Scotty mentioned after the event.
Saturday night would bring Scotty and his STM #64 team to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series. 27 cars were signed into BDR and Thiel would be the 18th car out in the qualifying order. Thiel would try a couple different lines in qualifying that didn’t work out as he had hoped and would end up 20th quick overall on the night. That would place him to start seventh in the ten lap heat race event. At the drop of the green, Scotty would get bunched up on the bottom of turn one and fell back a position but would quickly get up to the top side of the track and start his move forward. An early caution would get the field bunched back up and place Thiel to restart on the outside. He used that to his advantage and rocketed into the sixth position coming out of turn two. He would try to battle for the fifth position but came up short and settled for a sixth place finish which was good enough to lock him into the nights’ 40 lap main event! He would line up in the 17th position for the 40 lap A-main. The field took the green flag and Scotty worked the bottom side of the track for the first few laps. He was struggling early with the car and made the move to the top side of the track but still was unable to make much forward progress. Shortly after the half way marker was displayed Thiel would pull into the infield and retired from the main event. He would officially be scored in the 20th position. “We tried some stuff tonight in the main that didn’t work out to tell. After starting towards the back I told the guys let’s just use this as a test session and see what will happen. Unfortunately it didn’t work out all that well and I knew we weren’t moving forward so I called it a night. Any time we get to race with the Outlaws it’s a new experience and I can’t wait for the next one.” Thiel noted after the conclusion of the night.
Up next for the STM team is a double header weekend starting Saturday at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois and then following that up on Sunday at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries.
