Solid Top 5 Weekend for Thiel
After two solid fifth place finishes over Labor Day weekend, Scotty Thiel and the STM team prepared for a northern swing with the IRA Series. First stop was at Amsoil Speedway in Superior, WI for the Northern Nationals. After timing second quick for the night, Thiel checked out in the heat race to capture the win and followed that up with a fourth place finish in the A-main. The next night the team travelled south to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI where Scotty would charge his way from 12th to another fourth place finish.
On Friday night, Scotty drew a 19 pill which placed him fourth out in the qualifying order. After laying down a 13.936 lap time that would put him second quick on the night! He would line up fourth in the heat race event and after zooming around the top side in turn one he never looked back. He checked out from the field and captured his third straight heat race win with the IRA. During the redraw, the pill was picked and would place Thiel to start in the seventh position for the nights 30 lap A-main event. The field took the green and charged into turn one. Scotty was stuck on the bottom for a few laps but eventually made his way to the top side of the track. He lost a little ground but would slowly make his way forward throughout the next few laps. He moved up to the fifth position before the half way marker and continued to build momentum. Several laps later, Scotty noticed the engine started to fade out a little bit and he backed off the gas for a few laps. The temperature was raising but he continued on as the engine came back to full power. It was on and off for the remaining portion of the race but Thiel still held on and would actually move up into the fourth position at the end. He was making way to move into third but ran out of laps. “It was a respectable finish for us tonight. I was babying this motor half the race just to save it. For what I had to deal with out there, fourth isn’t horrible. We’ll get it figured out and prepare for tomorrow.” Thiel noted after the event.
The team found that a head gasket had gone out and they were forced to pull the motor. Fortunately, they were able to borrow a motor from another team to compete at Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday night as the engine stable went low for the team after a disaster of a night at Angell Park a few weeks back. Scotty would draw a 33 pill which placed him 15th out for qualifying. He laid down a 12.035 lap time which was 12th quick overall out of 25 cars in attendance. That would place him to start third in the heat race event. Tacky track conditions made for fast heat races and also made it tough to pass. The field took the green and Scotty was stuck on the bottom groove for a few laps and fell back to fourth. He tried to charge his way forward but was unable to do so and settled for a fourth place finish in the 10 lap heat. He would go on to start 11th in the 30 lap Jerry Richert Memorial A-main event. The field took the green and Scotty worked the middle and bottom groove early on. It was working out for him as he made his way forward early on in the race. With less than 10 laps in the books, Thiel worked his way up to the fifth position and was on a mission. With five laps to go, he moved into the fourth spot and was right on the lead cars. The white flag flew and Scotty shot down to the bottom in turn one and came out of turn two side by side for the third position. He moved up to the middle on turn three and came out side by side again for third but at the line the scorers would mark Thiel in the fourth position. “Tonight went well overall. It was close at the line and I thought I had a third place finish but the scorers said different. I cannot thank Ozzy and Fran enough for letting us borrow a motor tonight to come out here and keep out championship battle alive. They are great people and I’m so fortunate that they allowed us to do this tonight. We are still in this hunt so we’ll get things figured out here this week and prepare for Beaver Dam next weekend.” Scotty mentioned after the A-main.
The Scott Thiel Motorsports team would like to again thank the Ozzy Motorsports #73 team for allowing them to borrow a motor on Saturday night after issues occurred on Friday. The team will now prepare for the upcoming event happening this Saturday at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA Series.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
