Alex Pokorski tallies third top-10, eyes Eagle River jaunt

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 2, 2024 – After exhibiting plenty of speed right of the box, Alex Pokorski held tight throughout the night to secure his third top-10 A-main showing of the 2024 season behind the wheel of the No, 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car in a 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 29.

The fifth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor opened the night by ripping off the overall fastest time in group qualifying among the 24 cars in the field with a lap of 13.363 seconds around the historic third-mile clay oval.

The 2023 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association Most Improved Award recipient started fourth and came home second in the first 10-lap High Limit heat race.

Pokorski rolled off eighth in the 25-lap MSA-PDTR 360 Sprint Car A-main and hung around the top-10 on a tricky dry, slick and dusty racing surface throughout the event. The West Bend, Wis. driver rallied in the latter stages of the race to secure a seventh-place finish in a race won by Robbie Pribnow.

The result was Pokorski’s third top-10 A-main showing in five MSA-PDTR 360 Sprint Car main events during the 2024 campaign.

“The night started very well and we had a solid car all night,” Pokorski said. “Unfortunately, doing well early starts us mid-pack for the feature. I wish we were able to get past a few more cars in the feature, but that's racing sometimes.”

Paul Pokorski made his third start of the 2024 season behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A car.

Paul qualified 16th overall with a lap of 13.986 seconds before starting and finishing seventh in the first eight-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race. The 32nd-year driver then topped off the night by advancing three positions from the 17th starting position to finish 14th in the 25-lap main event.

“I thought the car was okay in qualifying in the heat race,” Paul said. “It wasn’t spot on, but it was okay. We made pretty big changes throughout the night and the crew worked really hard. The track was kind of different than most other nights and I thought pretty good considering all the rain we’ve had.”

The Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team is set to make its second trip to Eagle River Speedway for an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car main event on Saturday, July 6 in Eagle River, Wis.

Also on the card are 600 Micro Sprints, 300 Junior Sprints, B Mods and the Milwaukee Stock Car Association Vintage Modifieds.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

The Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team will then return to The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, July 13 for the annual Plymouth Racing Wall of Fame Induction Night Program, during which the names of eight drivers (Fuzzy Fassbender, Donny Goeden, Dave Haag, Steve Hoffmann, Randy Markwardt, Pete Ostrowski, Steve Schad and K.J. Skelton), three track workers (Lee Glomski, John Laack and Bill Krueger) and the McMullen racing family will be added to the track’s Wall of Fame.

In addition, the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars, the Super Six Late Model Series, Grand Nationals and B Mods will also be on the card.
Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.
