Trey Mills scores strong Top-5 finish with Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals at I-75 Raceway
Friday afternoon saw Trey Mills kick off his Easter weekend of racing at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.) for the $10,053-to-win Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals event.
Among 39 Late Models in the pit area, Mills stormed forward three positions in his heat race to pick up the victory and secure the pole position for the 53-lap main event. Leading the first couple laps of the feature, Trey surrendered the lead to Dale McDowell on lap three. Mills faded a few more positions but rallied to record a Top-5 finish in fifth. He trailed Brandon Overton, Dale McDowell, Sam Seawright, and Ricky Weiss.
Switching gears to Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Miss.) on Saturday evening, Trey was one of 28 Late Models checked in for the $3,000-to-win Mississippi State Challenge Series show.
Qualifying into the evening's dash, Trey finished fourth which earned him the fourth-place starting spot in the 40-lap feature. Making his way into the Top-3 before halfway, Mills was making his way around lapped traffic when a lap car pushed him up into the outside wall. Trey was unable to continue with the damage sustained and recorded a 22nd-place outing.
