Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series

Rookie of the Year Trey Mills returns to Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series in 2024

Trey Mills looks more like he’s preparing for a class science fair than he does readying to chauffeur an 800 horsepower Late Model. His diminutive 105-pound, 5-foot-9 frame and unmistakable black glasses make him one of the most recognizable drivers in the pit area — even at just 15 years old. It’s the Late Model part that Mills plans to analyze the most this season, however, as the reigning Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series rookie of the year has once again decided to follow the tour, this time in search of a series championship.

Last season the St. Augustine, Fla., native finished fifth overall in series points while picking up his first-ever victory in the Super Late Model division. Mills, who started racing karts when he was 6 years old before moving up to Crate Late Models at age 12, already has a solid baseline to follow.

The 2020 604 Crate Late Model track champion at All-Tech Raceway in Ellisville, Fla., and a winner during the 2020 Bristol (Tenn.) Dirt Nationals, Mills notched a Hunt the Front Series main event win in Mississippi during the series’ inaugural season.

After entering Crate Late Model competition — both 604 and 602 divisions — in his first 15 events of 2023, Mills stepped up to the Super Late Model ranks on April 7 as the Hunt the Front Series visited his home track, All-Tech Raceway. With 40 cars on hand, he raced his way into the $20,000-to-win main event and finished 15th in the feature.

He then stunned fellow series competitors by winning a $5,000-to-win main event on June 23 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss., just six weeks after his 15th birthday. Top-five finishes at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., were season highlights as well.

Mills, who wheels a Black Diamond Race Car powered by H&R Race Engines and Custom Race Engines, gets help from Jason Fitzgerald, his mother and father Amanda and Stanton Mills, and has sponsorship from Mills Concrete.
