Six Drivers in Contention for Badger Title with Seven Races Left

The Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Auto Racing Association points race looks to be a six-car fight going into Sunday's tilt at Angell Park Speedway. Todd Kluever currently occupies the top spot over Parker Jones by just four points. To put it in context, that's the difference between winning or finishing runner-up in a heat race (14 points for the winner, 10 for second).

Now you know why drivers go so hard in Badger heat races. While they are looking for a top-five to make the feature directly, the top-five in a heat are also awarded points.

Between missed races and a bad night, nobody's been able to run away with the points thus far. A total of 74 marks separate Kluever from Brandon Waelti in sixth, with Cody Weisensel, Kyle Stark and Matt Rechek in between. Each driver has occupied the top spot at some point this season.

Luke Wackerlin is 246 points back in seventh place and while he may have command of the Badger rookie race, it will be a big hill to climb to challenge for the overall title.

Qualifying is a spot teams can make up ground in too. The FIVEone Motorsports Fast Time is awarded 15 points and the second fastest earns ten points. The top-five in time trials each earn an amount of points.

When it comes to the Lyco Manufacturing Inc. Feature, the difference in a Bank of Sun Prairie Victory Lane interview with Eric Huenefeld and being the first to chat with BMARA President Quinn McCabe, as the second place car, while being teched, is ten points. If you finish third, you are 15 points back from the leader and (basically) every position after that is another five points down. Fans can find the point system on Badger's website under the rules section.

With seven scheduled races left, there's a lot that can happen and expect a couple of more shake ups at the top as Badger drives toward the finish of the 2024 season.

IT'S BACK PACK SUNDAY FOR THE BMARA

Once again, the teams of the BMARA have donated back packs filled with back to school essentials, which will be given out for the August 11 race at Angell Park. Check in early with the Badger Kid's Club to get one, while supplies last. Drivers should include a photo of their car, or a hero card in the backpacks they donate. Kids and parents are always welcome in the pits after the races and it would be a great opportunity to meet the drivers and thank them.
