Bellm Set for Creek County after Humboldt Runner-Up Run
Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (May 18, 2017) – Kyle Bellm and the Resource Asset Management Solutions (RAMS) No. 14k Sprint Car are set to take on the ASCS Red River Region at Creek County Speedway near Tulsa, OK, on Friday night after matching a season-best runner-up finish at Kansas’ Humboldt Speedway last Friday.
The strong Humboldt run that nearly resulted in a repeat win came on the heels of a rough Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour outing at Kansas City’s Lakeside Speedway the previous night.
“We were way too tight all night, we just never got going,” Bellm said of the Thursday Lakeside card.
Bellm and the PPG Automotive Finishes/Colorvision team shook it off in short order with a return to Humboldt Speedway, where he reached victory lane last year.
Drawing a high pill, Bellm made the most of it by racing from eighth to fourth in his heat race aboard the VP Racing Fuels/Schure Built Suspensions entry to land a spot in the redraw.
Luck was on Bellm’s side this time around with the Nixa, MO, racer drawing the pole position for the feature event.
Bellm put the Christian County Collision Repair/Bybee Lawn Care machine out front early before a duel for the point developed with Blake Hahn.
“We led the first few laps,” Bellm says. “I ran the bottom early, Blake (Hahn) jumped up top before I did.”
It wasn’t over yet, as Bellm put the Schaeffer Oil/Prater Designs/The Engine Heater machine into position to take the win.
“I reeled him in and had him set up for a last-lap slidejob, then a caution came out,” Bellm relates. “I don’t know exactly how it would have come out, but it would have been close.”
As it was, Bellm settled for a solid runner-up finish to match a runner-up finish earlier in the season at Moberly’s Randolph County Raceway.
Bellm looks to add another strong finish on Friday night with his first appearance of the 2017 season at Creek County Speedway.
Bellm drove the No. 14k to a runner-up finish to Bryan Clauson at Creek County Speedway last June during ASCS Speedweek.
2017 Quick Stats: 9 races, 3 top-fives, 3 top-tens.
