Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports Put on Show at River Cities Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending the weekend racing near the home of car owners Rick and Barb Rogers in North Dakota, Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports showed off a fast racecar all weekend long that was highlighted by a run from 16th to finish seventh on Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND.
“We had some really good speed all weekend long, but we broke a power steering line on Saturday, and got a late flat tire on Sunday night and really didn’t finish where we should have.”
Friday night at the high banked River Cities Speedway, McMahan opened the night up by timing the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants No. 4 entry in eighth fastest in his qualifying flight.
Running fourth in his heat race, McMahan would move directly into the 40-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 16th starting spot. Running in the 15th spot the first 11 laps, McMahan would use a restart to race his way into the Top-10 as he looked to get stronger as the laps wore on.
Running in the 10th spot from laps 10-17, McMahan would then nail a restart as he surged up into the seventh spot just before the race’s half way point. Battling hard, McMahan would find himself in a tight battle as he battled hard for seventh eighth and ninth in an action packed race.
Working his way up to sixth at one point in the closing laps, McMahan would hang on to pocket a seventh place finish when the race came to an end.
Traveling to Fargo, ND on Saturday night to battle at Red River Valley Speedway, McMahan would off to a bit of a tough start as he timed in 19th quickest in time trials.
Finishing eighth in his heat race, McMahan would go onto win the night’s Last Chance Showdown and punch his ticket into the feature event. Lining up 18th in the feature event, McMahan would get off to a bit of a tough start as he slipped back to 21st in the race’s early laps.
Battling back up to 18th, McMahan would get as high as the 16th spot when he then began fighting steering issues. Hanging on to a difficult car to driver for most of the race with a failing power steering line, McMahan would manage to finish 18th.
Signing in at NoDak Speedway in Minot, ND on Sunday night, McMahan would open his night up by timing in 14th fastest in qualifying time trials. Finishing fifth in heat race action, McMahan would transfer into the 35-lap feature event where he took the green flag from the 14th starting position. Again able to work his way forward, McMahan was able to race his way into the Top-10 as he got up to the ninth spot just before a late yellow flew.
With a tire losing air under caution, McMahan wasn’t quite the same when the race resumed and he lost a few spots as he took the checkered flag in 14th.
“It was a little disappointing to have issues on Saturday and Sunday,” McMahan said. “Sunday night we looked to be on our way to another Top-10, but the flat hurt us. I am proud of this team. Everyone has been working hard, and hopefully we can continue to be fast, and get better as we head West.”
