Progress Continues
PETERSEN MEDIA: Though the results are not quite what Destiny Motorsports and Craig Dollansky are looking for, the team is continuing to work hard and make gains as the World of Outlaws series continues to compete in California.
“Our results haven’t shown it, but we are making progress as a team,” Dollansky said.
Making his second ever appearance at the Stockton Dirt Track over the weekend, Dollansky kicked the FVP Western Sprint Shootout off by timing the MonDak Portables/Aggressive Hydraulics/Benic Enterprises backed No. 7 machine in 14th fastest.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Dollansky was hard on the throttle as he jumped out to an early lead, and went on to pick up the win and earn a spot in the Dash.
Lining up on the pole of the dash, Dollansky did not get the jump he had hoped, and slipped back to finish in the fifth spot, and in the third row for the 30-lap feature event. Going to work for the feature event, Dollansky and company were a little off, as the Crowd Pleaser spent the first half of the race doing what he could to get his machine moving forward.
Before the race was over, the Elk River, MN driver opted to save his equipment, as he pulled off early, and headed back to his pit area.
“Saturday night we were able to win our heat race, and start on the pole of the dash, and unfortunately we went backwards in the dash, and then again in the main,” Dollansky added. “I finally dropped out of the race and took it to the trailer. We can’t tear up equipment as we work to get a handle on our cars. Everyone is working hard to get things sorted out.”
Returning to the Stockton Dirt Track on Sunday night, Dollansky timed the Rick Rogers Construction/Maxim Chassis/Boss Signs and Graphics machine in 23rd fastest, before working his way up to a fourth place finish in his heat race.
On an extremely deteriorating track surface, Dollansky would start the feature event out of the 22nd starting position. As the race got started, Dollansky would slowly grab a few positions, as passing became challenging as the track began taking rubber.
Once he found the rubber, Dollansky would work his way into the 18th position, and settle in, as passing quickly stopped. Able to save his tires, and hold his place in line, ‘The Crowd Pleaser” would end his weekend with an 18th place finish.
“Sunday we had a decent car, but after a poor qualifying effort we had to start at the rear of the main event on a track that took rubber very early, and made it difficult to make forward progress,” he added. “Right now I need to be patient as a driver until we get a better handle on our cars. We have a strong race team, and we all need to stay focused, and keep working hard, and the results we all would like will follow.”
