Haudenschild Red Hot To Open Ohio Speedweek
PETERSEN MEDIA: Though Mother Nature as wreaked havoc on Ohio Speedweek, Jac Haudenschild has been on an absolute terror in the three races that have not been rained out as he won on Wednesday night at the Atomic Speedway, finished third at Waynesfield, and was running inside the third when he lost a tire late in the feature at Eldora.
“We have been getting better every and hopefully we can keep it up,” Haudenschild said. “The car is feeling good and the boys have been working their tails off.”
With rain washing out Friday night’s opener, the opener became Saturday night at the famed Eldora Speedway.
With 44 cars on hand, Haudenschild timed his machine in 12th fastest, putting him in the second row of the fourth heat race.
Powering his way to the heat race win, the Wooster, OH driver lined his machine up in the ninth spot for the feature event.
When the race came to life, Haudenschild did as he normally does at the Eldora Speedway, and quickly began forging his way to the front of the field.
Just five laps into the feature event, ‘The Wild Child’ had began battling for the fifth spot, and he was able to get Danny Dietrich and Jason Meyers to work into fourth by the 10th lap.
On lap 22, Haudenschild moved into the third spot, and began chasing down Danny Holtgraver and Dale Blaney, and things were looking good for the Destiny Motorsports team when the caution flew, bunching up the field with five to go.
Under the yellow however, Haudenschild’s right-rear tire was beginning to go flat, so he was forced to give up his third place position to make the change. He would restart and finish in the 12th spot.
Sunday night saw the All Stars invade the Waynesfield Raceway Park, and with 45 cars on hand, ‘Haud’ timed the MonDak Portables/Benic Enterprises/Rick Rogers Construction entry in 11th fastest.
In an exciting heat race, Haudenschild again advanced from the second row to score an exciting win, getting fans very excited for the feature event.
Lining up in the ninth spot of the feature event, Haudenschild found the high-side to his liking, as he put his right-rear on the cushion and began working his way to the front.
Finding himself in the fifth spot in just 15-laps, Haudenschild did not have a great restart following a caution, and ran in the seventh spot at the lap-18 caution.
A wreck on the 24th lap took out second running Bryon Reed, and with Stevie Smith being penalized during the red flag, Haudenschild had moved into striking distance with 16 laps remaining.
With Haudenschild and second running Dale Blaney getting past leader, Danny Dietrich in traffic, Haud continued to hound Blaney for the top spot, as he began feeling pressure from Jamie Veal.
On the last lap, Haudenschild slipped up a bit, and Beal stole the second spot, as Haudenschild took the final spot on the podium.
Monday and Tuesday night’s events were cancelled to rain, and on Wednesday, Haudenschild and his team picked up their first win of Speedweek.
With 62 cars on hand, Haudenschild timed the Renegade Rentals/Triple X Components/Boss Signs and Graphics entry in fourth fastest.
Finishing second in heat race action, Haudenschild would advance from fourth to third in the Dash, putting him in the second row of the feature event.
Falling into the fourth spot on the start of the race, Haudenschild again found himself ripping around the high-side of the speedway, as he got past Cole Duncan on the second lap to take the third spot.
Following a red on the sixth lap, ‘The Wild Child’, would begin battling with Sheldon Haudenschild for the second spot, with the elder prevailing and taking the spot on the eighth lap.
Running higher that race leader, Dale Blaney, Haudenschild closed in on him in lapped traffic only to have the caution waive on the 14th lap.
The ensuing restart saw the duo rocket away from the field, and with Haudenschild glued to Blaney’s rear bumper, and with five to go, he executed a perfect slider to grab the top spot, just before the red flag flew.
With Blaney now on his bumper for the restart, Haudenschild was flawless over the final laps, as he picked up the popular win.
“That was really fun. The track was awesome. The fastest way was around the top. I was running up there pretty high. It was a little easier running second. Dale was definitely fast but I was able to see his line and we got there at the end,” said Haudenschild.
