Jacob Hawkins Dominates Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series Earl Hill Memorial

MIDDLEBOURNE, WEST VIRGINIA (July 17, 2021)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series would make its first ever visit to Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV on Saturday evening for the track’s 33rd Annual Earl Hill Memorial and Jacob Hawkins of Fairmont, WV would lead all 40 laps on his way to a dominating win and captured the $5,080 payday.

The victory by the 31-year-old Hawkins would be his first career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series and come in the seat of a Rocket XR1 Chassis powered by an Andy Durham Race Engine and receives sponsorship from Johnson Motorsports, J&J Farms, Middletown Homes, MegaCorp Logistics, Melvin’s Transmissions, Hawkins Towing, Cash Cabins LLC, Tom’s Tire and Wheel, Bobby Lake Motorsports, and Mark Richards Racing.

Jacob Hawkins would take the lead at the drop of the green flag on the 33rd Annual Earl Hill Memorial feature event, followed by Ryan Montgomery, Colton Burdette, Todd Brennan, and Tyler Stutler. The front five would remain the same, with Hawkins opening up his lead quickly and would start lapping slower traffic on lap five. The first caution would wave on lap six when Josh Tonkin slowed in turn two. The next attempted restart would also see the see the yellow flag displayed again when a seven-car melee on the frontchute that would involve Clint Keenan, Anthony Kinkade, Dustin Nobbe, Tyler Riggs, Derek Doll, Corey Delancey, and A.J. Byrd, with Kinkade, Nobbe, and Doll done for the night. The next restart would also come back when Byrd would slow in turn four with right-front suspension damage. The next restart would stay green, with Hawkins still out front, trailed by Montgomery, Burdette, and Brennan, while Travis Brown would go to fifth. Burdette would slip high in turn one on lap eight, allowing Brennan, Brown, and fourteenth-place starter Tyler Carpenter to slip past. The final caution of the race would take place on lap twelve when Brandon Francis and Tyler Riggs would tangle on the frontchute. While under the caution, Riggs would make contact with Francis and both cars would start and Francis would get out of his car, with both drivers being disqualified for disobeying series rules. The final restart of the race would see Hawkins maintain the lead over Montgomery, Brennan, Brown, and Carpenter. Hawkins and Montgomery would distance themselves from the field, with Hawkins starting to work slower traffic on lap twenty-one. By lap twenty-seven, Hawkins would have lapped traffic between himself and Montgomery, while Montgomery would have almost a half-track lead over third-place Brennan. Meanwhile, tenth-place starter Shawn Jett would march his way through the field, making his way into the top five on lap twenty-nine and would take fourth from Brown on lap thirty-one. Hawkins would continue lapping slower traffic and would work up to the sixth-place car of Tyler Carpenter prior to the checkered flag falling, with Hawkins taking the victory, with Montgomery finishing second. Jett would see his charge end up with a third-place effort as he would get by Brennan on the final, with Brown completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Carpenter, Tyler Stutler, Clint Keenan, Shane Hitt, and Duane Chamberlain.

The next events for the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series will be at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on Friday July 23 for the Johnny Mulligan Classic and Muskingum County Speedway on Saturday July 24 for the Jim Dunn Memorial. Both events will pay $10,000 to win.
