Bacon Eyes Big Season after Career Best Chili Bowl Finish
Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (February 8, 2019) – Brady Bacon is poised for a huge 2019 season after getting the year off to a stellar start under the big top of the Tulsa Expo Center in January.
After posting a pair of top-five Micro Sprint finishes to kick off the year at the Tulsa Shootout, the Broken Arrow, OK, native backed it up by turning in his best Chili Bowl Nationals finish to date at the Tulsa Expo Raceway with a fourth-place finish in the January 19 finale to follow up a runner-up finish in his Monday night preliminary.
It sets the stage for a 2019 campaign that includes more than 100 slated racing events amongst a variety of dirt track disciplines including Sprint Cars, Midgets and Micros and both with and without wings.
“The focus is on getting a third USAC National Sprint Car championship with the Hoffman Brothers No. 69 team,” Bacon comments. “Then we’re able to fill in around that with a few Midget races, some winged races in the BBR No. 99 and the dirt track USAC Silver Crown races in the Klatt No. 6.”
While nearly half the schedule will be in wingless 410-ci action, Bacon rounds it out with approximately 20 Midget outings, another 20 or so winged Sprint Car starts, ten Micro events and a half-dozen Silver Crown events.
Bacon’s 2019 Midget action will be split among three entries including several in the familiar FMR No. 76 that he wheeled at the Chili Bowl, the Missouri-based TKH No. 21 and the CMS No. 85.
After driving the FMR Racing No. 76m to a third-place finish in 2018 USAC National Midget points with the “BC39” triumph at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway along the way, Bacon started the recent Chili Bowl out on the right foot with a runner-up finish in the Monday night, January 14, preliminary feature that locked him into his first finale since 2013.
Bacon made the most of it, biding his time in the early stages of the 55-lapper on January 19 aboard the Imperial Wagyu Beef entry before turning up the wick as the track began to widen.
After starting seventh, Bacon soon cracked the top five and engaged in an entertaining battle for third with the lead duo within sight over the closing rounds before settling for fourth at the stripe. It bettered his previous best Chili Bowl Nationals finish of seventh in 2008.
“Our car was really good, I think we might have been able to chase down the top two if we could have got clear of third,” Bacon relates. “We got to racing so hard for position though that there wasn’t any catching those guys then.”
Bacon’s season gets under way in earnest with next weekend’s season-opening set of events for the USAC National Sprint Car series at Bubba Raceway Park’s Winer Dirt Games in Ocala FL.
