Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2021) – Brian Brown wrapped up his annual fall trek to Pennsylvania last weekend when he competed in the Champion Racing Oil National Open.
Brown’s highlight of the weekend with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series was a 13th-place finish during the opener before he closed the event with a rare DNF on Saturday.
Oct. 1 – Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. – Qualifying: 6; Heat race: 3 (3); Feature: 13 (12).
“It was a decent weekend there at the National Open,” Brown said. “We just missed it Friday in the qualifying. I felt like I didn’t do a very good job of making a perfect lap and we were sixth quick. You had to be in the top four to be on the front row in a heat race. We ran third in the heat and started 12th in the feature. We kind of bounced around and was back to 15th and then up to eighth and then ended up 13th. We just weren’t as good. The track conditions were a little different than we had been accustomed to the last month in Pennsylvania. It wasn’t a bad night, but wasn’t a great night.”
Oct. 2 – Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. – Qualifying: 6; Heat race: 3 (3); Feature: 25 (12).
“We went out real late and felt we cut a good lap for where we went out,” Brown said. “We were third in the heat and lined up 12th again. We got three quarters of the way down the back straightaway and the car just spun around on me. I’m not sure if something broke or what, but it was so early into the corner where it happened. Getting run into it was tough to tell if something broke. It was a tough way to end our National Open. I feel bad for Daryn (Pittman) getting caught up in our mishap and his team tearing up their car also.”
UP NEXT – Oct. 22 at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series
“Overall it was a real good Pennsylvania swing,” Brown said. “You look back with a win, lots of top fives. I felt we were pretty solid. Danny, Nate, my dad and Ben, who was out there helping us, did a phenomenal job. I’m looking forward to getting back to the Midwest in two weeks at Lakeside for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.”
SEASON STATS –
64 races, 8 wins, 19 top fives, 34 top 10s, 45 top 15s, 54 top 20s
