Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (Oct. 22, 2019) – Brian Brown scored his fifth top five of the season during World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series competition last Friday when Lakeside Speedway hosted the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.
Brown led the first 12 laps of the 30-lap feature before holding on for his 24th total top five this year. He nearly captured another top five the following night during the Jason Johnson Classic presented by FK Rod Ends before an ignition problem ended his night early.
Oct. 18 – Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan. – Qualifying: 5; Heat race: 2 (2); Dash: 1 (1); Feature: 4 (1).
“We were quickest hot lapping,” Brown said. “We went out late and were able to get qualified fifth quickest. We did what we needed in the heat and dash, and then we led the first half of the A Main. Sometimes as a driver when you take off you know if you have a good car. We were so good at the beginning I knew we’d have trouble. We got too free toward the end. We just missed it a little bit and when you just miss it with the Outlaws you’re going to run fourth.
“We had almost 200 people there with FVP. The Outlaws did a great job with the hospitality. Also, I think I had 50 people in friends and family that came. It was a good night.”
Oct. 19 – Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. – Qualifying: 5; Heat race: 1 (2); Dash: 3 (3); Feature: 20 (3).
“It’s a place we haven’t been that good lately,” Brown said. “It was a welcoming happiness to go there and hot lap good and qualify fifth. I felt like we were right there in contention to have a good run. We took off there inside the top five running fourth, but we had ignition trouble and the thing died. I was hoping to get away with two top-five finishes on the weekend. To go in those places and be in contention to have potential wins and top fives is a good weekend. The last six weeks we’ve fine-tuned some issues we’ve had throughout the year and found some things. I wish the season wasn’t coming to a close.
“To have a good run at the Jason Johnson Classic would have been good. Jason was a guy I looked up to and had a lot of respect for on and off the track. We had some similarities in that we both owned our own teams. We talked a lot about different things associated with our teams. There can only be one winner of that race. If we couldn’t win I was happy to see the No. 41 win. That was a cool moment for their team.”
UP NEXT – Friday and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., for the Nittany Showdown with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series
“Out of all the places in Pennsylvania, if you’re going to drive 14 hours Port Royal is a track we are confident we can have good runs at,” Brown said. “We’ve been in contention to win there several times. We need to get qualified, which is key with the Outlaws. We need to put ourselves in a position to have a good run and that starts with good qualifying laps.”
