Blaney Keeps Kings Royal A Main Streak Alive with 10th Consecutive Feature

Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 19, 2016) – Dale Blaney achieved a rare feat last weekend when he made his 10th consecutive Kings Royal main event at Eldora Speedway.
Although he didn’t end with the results he wanted, Blaney guided the Mainstream Holdings Inc. sponsored CH Motorsports team into one of the 24 spots out of nearly 60 competitors. His streak ranks fourth behind Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana and Daryn Pittman for consecutive features qualified. It was also Blaney’s 18th Kings Royal A Main since 1994.
“We’ve been up and down all year,” he said. “It was up and down all three days of the Kings Royal. We’ve got to find more consistency.”
Blaney kicked off the three-day World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event on Thursday by qualifying sixth quickest in his group. He then ended fourth in a heat race to start 16th in the main event.
“We just never really got going,” he said. “I was trying to run up and down and different places. I got to 12th early. We had a hard left rear tire. If it would have stayed green all 30 laps I could have made my way to the top 10. As soon as the first yellow came out I think I fell from 12th to 18th in a lap.”
Blaney ended 17th.
He returned to the half-mile oval on Friday and timed in sixth quickest in his group before winning a heat race and placing sixth in one of twin dashes. That lined him up 11th for the main event.
“I got right to seventh on Lap 1 and we just hung there,” he said. “We passed two and then two passed me. I felt like we were ok. We needed a little more. The track was slick and slow. We were just off a little bit. It was really tough for me to clear guys.”
Blaney, who finished with a seventh-place result, capped the weekend on Saturday at the $50,000-to-win finale. He qualified 13th quickest overall and placed fourth in a heat race to miss locking into the feature by only one position. That relegated him to the B Main, where a runner-up result lined Blaney up 22nd for the 40-lap feature.
“It was really, really hard to pass early,” he said. “I got lapped on Lap 20. It was unfortunate that we got lapped and then the yellow came out half a lap later. It was tough to start in that spot.”
Blaney pulled off the track early and was credited with a 23rd-place result.
Last week’s competition began on Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, for the Brad Doty Classic. Blaney set quick time in his group before finishing second in a heat race and fifth in a dash.
“I was pretty confident lining up 10th that I could get toward the front in the main event,” he said. “We steadily did. I got to third fairly early and just sat there for a bit. I struggled in the middle portion of the race. After a yellow on Lap 28 we jumped ahead of Sheldon (Haudenschild) and behind (Donny) Schatz. He got away from me a bit and then I started getting back toward him toward the end, but I couldn’t get to him in time.”
Blaney ended with a runner-up result.
He will return to action on Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup with the World of Outlaws before Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions races on Friday and Saturday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind.
