Blaney Remaining Optimistic following Frustrating Ohio Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (June 28, 2016) – Dale Blaney is about as optimistic as they come.
Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored CH Motorsports team endured a frustrating end to the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Speedweek. However, Blaney chooses to look at the positive side.
“As bad as we ran all week and had three DNFs in eight races we’re still only 14 points out of the lead for the All Stars,” he said.
The second half of Ohio Speedweek began a week ago Tuesday at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, where Blaney qualified fourth quickest overall and quickest in his group before ending fourth in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the 10th row for the main event.
“We had one bad time we were on the track and that was the heat race,” he said. “I had a tough heat race and just couldn’t get going anywhere. We go from fourth quick time to starting 20th in the A Main. My car was probably a car that could have won the race if I start in the top four or five rows. Starting 20th and getting to fourth, I thought our car was better than anyone in front of me.”
Blaney rallied from 20th to post a fourth-place finish, which was his 20th top five of the season.
Ohio Speedweek resumed the ensuing night at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio. Blaney timed in 24th quickest overall and fourth in his group to start on the pole of a heat race.
“We were running in second and I felt like I was going to be ok,” he said. “We had a yellow on Lap 2. When we restarted another driver stopped in the groove. I never saw him and I never heard anything on the radio. He was just sitting there and I ran into him. It was an unfortunate situation.”
Blaney was unable to finish the heat race and he placed sixth in the B Main, which forced him to use a provisional to start at the back of the field for the main event.
“Our car was hurt a little bit,” he said. “I didn’t feel like I was bad. I was just mired back there and it was hard to get yourself going forward. That track didn’t promote a lot of passing that night either.”
Blaney advanced from 25th to a 16th-place result.
Lima Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, hosted an event on Friday night with Blaney timing in sixth quickest, placing second in a heat race and finishing seventh in the dash to start the feature on the inside of the fourth row.
“I plugged it straight in the wall running fifth,” he said. “That basically killed our night. We were running ok. I just needed to be patient. Sometimes when you’re not running that good your patience is thinner than others.”
Blaney endured a DNF and he was credited with a 20th-place finish.
Ohio Speedweek wrapped up on Saturday at Eldora Speedway. Blaney qualified fourth quickest and ended third in a heat race.
“I was supposed to start 11th in the feature, but didn’t feel great all night long,” he said. “I thought it was more the race track than anything. During the warm-up lap of the feature I was running through turns three and four and spun out. That took me from starting 11th to 23rd. I ran about two laps and pulled in because I couldn’t steer it.”
Blaney finished with another DNF and a 24th-place result.
He will return to All Star competition this Saturday at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich., and Sunday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., for the Tony Stewart presents the Inaugural Dirty 30.
