2013 Devin Wignall Racing Season in Review
2013 was a up and down season for Devin Wignall Racing. After racking up two A-Main victories and four podium finishes the Altoona, Iowa racer headed into the 2013 Outlaw Dirt Kart Nationals as the odds on favorite to three peat this event. After winning the second heat race, the eleven year old youngster pulled off the race track to the scale area where he was in severe pain. "The racing surface was very rough and as I went through the first and second corner the right front hit a hole just right and my grip on the steering wheel was loose, so it kicked the wheel back and fourth and ended up injuring my left hand and ring finger. I wanted to compete in the A-Main, so the fire and rescue crew told me what I needed to do. I remember my parents told me that when it started hurting to pull out of the race, but I ended up not only finishing the A-Main, I ended up winning it!" The win made Devin the top points driver going into the final night of racing and a very good shot to pull off his third Outlaw Dirt Kart Nationals title.
The next morning came and it was off to see the hand doctor where Devin received the news he did not want to hear. His left hand was fractured and his ring finger was broken at the growth plate. The injury would not only sideline the Altoona, Iowa racer from the Nationals A-Main, but it would sideline him for over a month. With the racing season winding down the season was cut short. "We are going to be back strong in 2014 for sure!"
