Eric Blumer
Week Two at BDR
The team headed to Beaver Dam Raceway for the second point night of the season, last night, May 11. There was no practice again, so the boys went with the set up they had last week.
THE HEAT RACE
Eric started third in his heat of seven cars. Smoke was coming out from the right rear when he’d come off the corner, but a couple of other Legends seemed to have the same issue. When Eric came off the track he told Justin and Cody he felt a vibration and thought we might have a issue with the rear end.
Justin went to work looking things over. Eric went off to confer with some other drivers. Justin finally told Eric, “There may be a problem, but it’s not catastrophic,” just race the car.
Re the right rear, which was hitting the tire, “Father Time” Dan Mech, who was pitted next to us said there were others scraping their right rear too and he felt it was just the way the track was this week. Dan also felt the track was a lot faster than last week.
FEATURE
Drivers draw for their starting slots. Eric drew poorly and pushed off in the 15th spot in the 22 car field for the feature. He ran the higher groove some, but ran the mid to lower line more. In the first quarter of the race he was about in the same spot. He dodged a spinning car shortly after that was was about 13th on the restart. He picked off a couple of cars, usually driving under them out of the second turn.
A flip on the backstretch halted action for a bit and took out two of the frontrunners. Eric was in about tenth on the restart and worked his way to an eighth place finish. This was his best finish at BDR and tied his best finish ever when he was eighth at Angell Park Speedway in 2018.
WHAT’S NEXT
It’s back to Beaver Dam next Saturday night. Sunday is the traditional opener at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie! WE ARE NOT ON THE CARD and won’t be racing, but it will be one of the biggest shows of the year as Tony Stewart’s All Start Sprint Cars and the Badger Midgets take to the track. Check www.angellpark.com for details and pricing.
