Multiple Records Fall During 10th Annual Mud Mayhem Mud Bog

Jamaica, VA – The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosted the first of two Mud Bog and Mud Sling’s for the 2017 season this past Saturday May 20th. The Mud Mayhem Mud Bog presented James River Equipment, Commonwealth Motorsports and Essex Concrete and in part by Aaron’s, Atkins Petroleum & Propane, After Hours Fabrication, Collision One and Truckin Thunder drew a huge crowd and great field of competitors at the state of the art mud bog facility in Jamaica, VA.

The sunny temperatures and sunny skies provided a tremendous day for mud bogging. 68 different competitors took turns at the state of the art 200 foot pit for a total of 146 completed passes.

Winners in each class: Super Stock A – Casey Coates in Doin’ It Dirty; Super Stock B – Tracy Hare in Twisted Jiblet; Modified A – Blake Messer in Whiskey Bent; Modified B – Ray Atkins in Haulin’ Gas; Pro Mod A – Spence Messick Jr. in Mud Runner; Pro Mod B – Lee Sturgis in The Grey Ghost; Unlimited Bog – Colton Shell – Big Bad Wolf; Unlimited X Tractor – Matthew Underwood in Hells Bells; Obstacle X – Matthew Underwood in Hells Bells; X Cuts – Dale Ellenberger in Touch of Madness; and XX Paddles – Dale Ellenberger in Touch of Madness. Katie King in Pure Aggravation took the top Nitrous/Non-blower bonus in the X Cut class and Frank “Tadpole� Emory took the top Nitrous/Non-blower bonus in the XX Paddle class. Four track records were broken during the day’s events with each scoring a $100 bonus in the Tadpole’s Break the Record Challenge presented by E&E Caulking. In the Super Stock A division Casey Coates in Doin’ It Dirty set a new division track record with a 6.308 second pass, breaking a record that had stood since 2008. In the Super Stock B division Tracy Hare in Twisted Jiblet set the new division track record with a 5.071 second pass; the previous record was set back in 2014. In the Mod B division Ray Atkins in Haulin’ Gas lowered the record he has held since June of 2014 with a 4.305 second pass and in the Pro Mod B division Lee Sturgis in The Grey Ghost set the new division track record with a 3.991 second pass besting the previous record set in October of 2015.

The Pit at VMS is located on the grounds of Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway and is situated on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA.
