Edmonds and Mccaslin score firsts on MARFC night
Some old school racing with the return of four car dashes, Australian pursuits, and hard fought action highlighted MARFC and autograph night at Birch Run Speedway. The Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club (www.marfc.org) had board members and President John Jackson on hand to tell fans about the promotions they do for local auto racing and the benefits of being a member.
Backroad Beaute' Salon Fast Qualifier Award Winners were:
O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes Modifieds: Michael Luberda Jr. - 16.296
Limited Late Models: Bob Farley - 17.057
Showcase Auto Sales Street Stocks: Tim Lahar - 17.227
Front Wheel Drive Compacts: Mark Williamson - 18.567
Josh Hahn was honored by MARFC President John Jackson during pre-race ceremonies with their helmet/uniform bag for his commitment to the Limited Late Model class and Birch Run Speedway. Hahn then proceeded to win the four car dash. Matt Mueller took his first Birch Run Speedway LLM win in the Australian pursuit.
Coming into the night tied for the points lead in the O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes Modifeds, Nick Lechota placed first in the four car dash. Zach Johnson won his first Modified event in the first Australian pursuit. Nick Clemens edged out Steve Rollins on the last lap taking Australian pursuits number two.
The Showcase Auto Sales Street Stocks four car dash win went to Kyle Callahan for his first street stock checkered flag. Bob Farley was victorious in the Australian pursuit.
Opening night, May 2nd, was the last time the Front Wheel Drive Compacts were in competition on the third-mile oval at Birch Run Speedway. Mark Williamson was the victor then and the Whittemore, MI driver was victorious again in their first of two features. Daegan Clayton was runner-up ahead of Gavin Iseler, Emily Clayton, and Silas Mccaslin.
After a successful autograph session, the Limited Late Models ran their 20-lap feature. Coming off a career-best second place finish in feature number two on July 18th, Shawn Edmonds parked his #4 in the Advance Auto Parts Victory Lane for his first LLM feature win at Birch Run. Current point leader Dalton Worthy finished second ahead of Bob Farley, Josh Hahn and Matt Mueller.
Justin Noffsinger led the O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes Modifed feature until trying to pass lapped traffic. Nick Lechota used the cars as a pick and gained the lead. Lechota held the lead through a lengthy yellow and until 12 laps to go. That's when three-time Champion, David McManus, got to the outside of Lechota and claimed his first feature win at BRS in 2025. Michael Luberda Jr., Noffsinger, and Lonnie Saumier Jr trailed McManus and Lechota.
Fast Qualifier Tim Lahar and Duane Damon had a spirited battle for the win in the Showcase Auto Sales Street Stocks. After a rough initial start and a caution on lap three, the duo battled around the four-tenths mile, trading paint a few times before Damon took the lead on lap 10. The Mt. Morris pilot led the remaining 15 laps and moved into fourth place in points. Points leader Johnny Hayden finished third, Kevin Harder fourth, and Chaz Taylor fifth.
The night concluded with the second feature for the Front Wheel Drive Compacts. Daegan Clayton tried to improve from her second place finish in the first feature but couldn't find a way around Logan Mccaslin as Mccaslin secured his first feature win! Gavin Iseler, Silas Mccaslin and Mark Williamson completed the top five.
